On March 19 began the 28th edition of ProWein, the most important wine fair in the world. As every year, it was held in Düsseldorf (Germany) and brought together the wineries most awarded and rated by wine critics.
This year’s edition was attended by 6,000 exhibitors from about 60 countries. Virtually all the wine-producing countries of the world participated. From Australia, New Zealand and South Africa (which were not represented at the 2022 fair because of Covid) to other countries such as Argentina, Chile, China, USA, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary or Georgia and many others.
Spain occupies an important place with its appellations of origin, especially Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Desiderio Sastre, general manager of Bodegas Vilano, one of the most recognized wineries in Ribera del Duero by critics and oenologists, which occupies an important place at the international level, along with others such as Vega Sicilia, Protos and Emilio Moro, tells us that we are facing a spectacular year thanks to the lifting of Covid 19 restrictions for markets such as the United States last year and the opening of the Asian market.
ProWein was launched in 1994 with 321 exhibitors from eight countries and peaked in 2019 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary with 6,900 exhibitors from 64 countries and 61,560 visitors from 143 nations.
Michael Degen, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, explains, “The international product spectrum at ProWein is unique and offers professionals from the food retail, specialist trade, gastronomy and catering sectors a unique opportunity to obtain comprehensive information, identify new trends and place orders.”
At the show, traditional tastes are consolidated and trends are discovered. New, light wines, exquisite on the palate and with less aftertaste.
